How did you get to where you are today?

I studied economics at Chelyabinsk State University in the Ural region of Russia, where I grew up. Through a summer work and travel program, I had the chance to visit the U.S., improve my English, and work as a housekeeper.

After returning to Russia, all I could think about was going back. I found another internship opportunity and returned to the U.S., originally planning to stay for 18 months—but that was over 15 years ago. I kept discovering new opportunities and knew I wanted the U.S. to become my permanent home.

Since moving, I’ve built a career in finance with experience across both the for-profit and nonprofit sectors. What drew me to nonprofits was their mission-driven and generous nature—qualities I deeply value in a workplace.

I’m also drawn to the challenges nonprofits face – often operating under pressure with limited resources. The creativity and problem-solving this requires is what inspired me to pursue a finance position at GMA.

Why was GMA the right place for you?

When I joined, GMA was transitioning to a new employee ownership model, which really caught my interest. Working at GMA has been a great opportunity to learn how foundations operate and support the nonprofit sector.

What sets GMA apart from work at an accounting firm for me is that we offer additional layers of service, and I see my contributions supporting something larger. My work on the finance team is integrated into client teams across the company. We collaborate and everyone brings unique strengths to the table.

GMA is a good place to grow! I’ve deepened my connection to philanthropy through professional development opportunities, and explored areas beyond accounting, such as new processes and tools that improve efficiency and impact.

What do you hope to see in philanthropy over the next 5–10 years?

I hope philanthropy – and the nonprofit sector – continues to play a vital role in the economy, providing meaningful jobs and supporting industries like education, healthcare, and social services. Younger generations have incredible opportunities to shape its future. I want it to remain a space where compassion, innovation, and community leadership can redefine success—not just by economic metrics, but through the well-being of our communities. I’m optimistic!

What do you like to do in your free time?

I love staying active—swimming, going to the gym, playing tennis or volleyball—and I especially enjoy group activities. Being involved in my children’s interests also gives me the chance to try new things while modeling a healthy, active lifestyle.

I’m an engaged volunteer in our local schools and community. I help coordinate our town’s Docent Art program and occasionally coach sports. These experiences keep me connected and grounded, and they reinforce my passion for the nonprofit sector.
