Bridging Gaps: Supporting Young Adults on their Paths to Success

Virtual Funder Briefing facilitated by GMA

Over six thousand 16-to-24-year-olds in Boston are neither in school nor working. Sometimes referred to as opportunity youth, what supports do they need on their paths to economic self-sufficiency and meaningful lives? What programs are showing results or promise? What is philanthropy’s role in engaging young adults to reach their potential?

Please join us for a funder briefing and conversation with leaders who are at the forefront of efforts to engage ‘opportunity’ youth in Greater Boston and support their paths to self-sufficiency.

Thursday, October 10, 12:00PM to 1:00PM

Addressing the needs of 16-to-24-year-olds is critical not only for their personal development but also for the health and vitality of our city. Experts will share:

  • an overview of issues affecting youth in Boston,
  • what youth disconnection rates may reveal,
  • highlights from some of the groundbreaking work being done to reduce overall disconnection and scale connections to workforce and education, and
  • how the philanthropic sector might contribute to this work.

Funder Briefing and Discussion with:

Kathy Hamilton, Youth Transitions Director, Boston Private Industry Council (PIC) and member of the steering committee, Boston Opportunity Youth Collaborative

Andrea Chery, Director of Youth and Alumni Services, YouthBuild Just A Start

Rachel Rifkin, Senior Program Officer, GMA Foundations

Rachel will facilitate the discussion and conclude with an introduction to the 17/25 Fund for Young Adults, a pooled giving and learning experience launching in January 2025 to explore direct cash payments for young participants in workforce development programs.
